Police detectives are responsible for carrying out investigations in order to solve or prevent crimes.

Typical Duties of the Job

• Investigate known or suspected criminals and the facts of a particular case

• Frequent establishments and locations where suspect is known to be found

• Identify the criminal’s habits, associates, characteristics, aliases and other relevant information

• Locate and question witnesses

• Observe the scene of a crime to gather evidence and clues

• Prepare cases for court

• Provide testimony in court
