Cabinet Maker Job Description

Cabinet makers design and construct cabinets by using various hand and power tools to cut and shape wood and other materials based on the specifications of the client or the manufacturer.

Typical Job Duties

• Confer with clients or company management to gain thorough understanding of cabinetry needs and specifications

• May confer with clients regarding budget and timeline restrictions

• Liaise with interior designers

• Repair, alter or construct cabinetry

• Setup and operate machines such as power saws, jointers, molders and others in order to cut, mold and shape wood and other materials

• Install hardware such as hinges, handles, catches, and drawer pulls, using hand tools

• Match materials for color, grain, and texture, giving attention to knots and other features of the wood

• Trim, sand, and scrape surfaces and joints to prepare articles for finishing

• Bore holes for insertion of screws or dowels, by hand or using boring machines

• Measure and mark dimensions of parts on paper or lumber stock prior to cutting, following blueprints, to ensure a tight fit and quality product

• Verify dimensions of final product in order to ensure adherence to initial specifications
