Historical artifact conservators are responsible overseeing the efforts related to cleaning, restoring and preserving archaeological specimens and historical artifacts.

 

 

Historical Artifact Conservator Job Duties

  • Prepare reports of preservation or restoration activities
  • Treat artifacts to prevent or minimize physical deterioration
  • Restore artifacts by polishing, joining together broken fragments and other procedures
  • Record the treatment given to each artifact
  • Clean, repair and reinforce artifacts such as weapons, mummified remains, pottery and others
  • Use chemicals, hand and power tools to perform cleaning, restoration and conservation duties
  • May design and conduct research relating to the improvement of restoration and conservation methods
  •
