Penologists are specialized sociologists that are responsible for studying the groups and social institutions that people form in order to gain an understanding of human society and social behaviour.

 

They also trace the origin and growth of groups as well as the interactions between them.

 

 

Typical Job Duties

• Confer with researchers in other disciplines

• Obtain and analyze data in order to increase understanding of human social behaviour

• Develop, implement and evaluate data collection methods

• Advise administrators, social workers, and legislators regarding social issues and policies

• Prepare and publish reports on findings of research

• Develop approaches to the solution of groups' problems, based on research findings in sociology and related disciplines
