Domestic violence victim advocates provide assistance to victims of domestic violence and facilitate communication between the victims of domestic violence and criminal justice personnel.

 

Domestic Violence Victim Advocate Job Duties

• Contact and counsel reluctant victims to explain fully the position of the prosecuting attorney and the possible effects and consequences of their actions to increase the victim's understanding of the criminal case and the victim's situation

• Serve as liaison to the Probation and Court Services department to inform, educate and support their efforts in these cases

• Serve as a liaison with various community groups and resources

• Oversee special projects relating to informing community groups about domestic violence problems and how to deal with them

• Prepare the victim for court testimony

• Maintain a list of domestic violence experts for providing testimony

• Obtain full and complete statements from victims as well as medical releases to provide necessary evidence for prosecution

• Refer client to counseling and financial assistance services
