Interpretive Dancer Job Description

Interpretive dancers translate feelings, emotions, situations, conditions or fantasies into movement and dramatic expression.

Typical Job Duties

• Explore origins and cultural influences of specific movements

• May elaborate traditional ethnic movements into more modern expression

• Rehearse dance routines under the direction of an instructor

• Perform dances as soloist or as a member of a group

• Perform in front of television, film or live audiences

• May be involved in the choreography of a performance

• Train and exercise to maintain the required levels of ability and fitness
