Tailor Job Description

Tailors alter, repair and create clothing according to a customer’s needs and specifications. Tailors may be employed by retail clothing establishments, or may be self employed. 

Typical Job Duties

• Take measurements of customer

• Use a premade pattern or self designed pattern to create garments

• Ensure proper fit of garment by having the customer try it on

• Adjust the seams of a garment

• Patch tears or sew rip and holes to repair clothing

• May be responsible for basic bookkeeping functions

• May be responsible for performing advertising and promotional functions
