Scientific illustrators are responsible for creating illustrations which assist with the demonstration and explanation of scientific principles.

 

Their illustrations are used in textbooks, reference materials, websites, magazines, journals and other publications.  

 

 

Typical Job Duties

• Liaise with management or client to gain through understanding of project requirements and specifications

• May use traditional illustration methods, such as pencil, charcoal and ink

• May use modern illustration methods, such as computer aided design software

• Work closely with scientists to translate primary image data accurately into illustration format

• May work with Informatics and IT departments to ensure product meets web specifications

• Seek management or client approval at all stages of illustration process

• If working a s a freelancer, must promote services by devising and executing marketing strategies
