Historical Society Director Job Description

A Historical Society Director is responsible for managing staff, volunteers, programs, and finances as required by the Board of Directors.

 

 

Typical Job Duties

• Balance and maintain the Society's budget, and operate within its restrictions

• Responsible for overseeing the work of the Development Director with regards to fundraising and donation development

• Assist in grant research and writing in order to increase public and private support

• Be the “face” of the Historical Society and represent the Society at various functions and government hearings

• Maintain the security of the Society’s collections as well as supervise the curator and librarian

• Evaluate and oversee the Society's programs which may include educational programs for children and adults, tours of historic sites, special events, exhibitions, summer history camp, publications and a museum shop
