The managing editor of a news publication provides leadership and direction to their team of editors and writers. They are responsible for developing article content strategy and overseeing the creation collection of news stories.

 

 

Typical Job Duties

• Review and update the publication’s Policy and Style Guidelines

• Generate ideas for potential articles and solicit writers to develop them into stories

• Establish professional external relationships with content providers and sources to obtain consent to publish re-purposed articles

• Collaborate with the coordinators from other departments to ensure consistency in content

• Participate in ongoing skill development education

• Represent the publication at media events, conferences and other relevant gatherings

• Update board members regarding the direction of the publication and the feedback it is receiving

• Oversee the work of departmental editors
