Philologists study the structure, origin and development of specific languages and language groups.

Typical Job Duties

• Use comparative analysis of ancient parent languages to trace the origin and evolution of words and syntax

• Identify and classify obscure and rare languages according to family and origin

• Study word and language structure characteristics such as morphology, phonology, accent and grammar

• Compose articles for publication

• Speak at seminars, conferences, university lectures and other information based gatherings
