Instrumental Musician Job Description

Instrumental musicians play musical instruments as soloists, with bands, with orchestras or with small ensembles. Instrumental musicians play their instruments in a variety of settings such as live performances, in a recording studio or in workshop situations.

 

 

Instrumental Musician Job Duties

  • Provide musical background for theatre and other performances
  • Play musical instrument with bands, orchestras, small ensemble and other groups
  • Read and interpret sheet music quickly and accurately during rehearsal
  • May improvise while playing instrument
  • Continually learn new pieces to expand repertoire
  • Work with other musicians to perform a musical piece
  • May take direction from a director or conductor
  • May confer with manager for contract negotiation purposes
  • May be required to book own shows and performances
  •
