Music Librarian Job Description

Music librarians generally set policy for and run the Musical Materials Center of a library, which contain collections of materials such as books, scores and sound recordings which are used in the musical instruction, education and enjoyment.

 

 

Typical Job Duties

• Recruit, interview, hire and train library staff

• Set policy for the selection of library music materials

• Acquire music materials for library

• Develop and implement circulation policy

• Personally provide reference service to patrons for music information needs, and train support staff in the same

• Ensure that library space is used in the most efficient, convenient and aesthetically pleasing way

• Decide where to place various types of music materials within the library
