The pastoral officer provides spiritual care and guidance to patients, their families and hospital staff.

Typical Job Duties

• Facilitate ethical discussions among patients and their families

• Maintain professional growth by attending seminars, conferences and workshops

• Respond to patient referrals

• Evaluate a patient’s need for spiritual guidance

• Recommend other programs and services as needed

• Coordinate with health care staff to assist patient with personal adjustment

• Meet with patients, their family or staff for counseling
