Relief shelter workers are responsible for the safety and overall well-being of emergency and transitional housing program residents.

 

 

Typical Job Duties

• Assist with maintaining shelter cleanliness

• Distribute mail

• Maintain friendly relationships with neighbours

• Ensure that program rules are being adhered to by residents

• Monitor and record the arrival and departure of individuals and families

• Notify social work staff in case of emergency relating to shelter residents

• Meet with shelter housing program director periodically

• Ensure a safe and supportive atmosphere is provided within the shelter

• Log event notes, including any incidents that occur

• Work cooperatively with other staff in assisting clients toward the goals of permanent housing and stable income
