Dance Instructor Job Description

Dance instructors are responsible for demonstrating and explaining dance methods and techniques with musical or rhythmic accompaniment for students of all ages and skill levels. Dance instructors may instruct multiple forms of dance, or focus on a primary form.

 

 

Typical Job Duties

• Demonstrate dance techniques and methods to individuals or groups

• Drill students in the execution of dance steps

• Observe and correct the techniques and movements of students

• Determine the physical and artistic abilities and limitations of students

• Plan programs that meet the needs and suit the abilities of the students

• May teach theory and practice of dance notation, as well as dance history

• May choreograph and direct dance performances

• May confer with parents or guardians regarding the progress of the student
