Art Handler Job Description

Art handlers are responsible for the intake, preparation, maintenance, packing and shipping of fine art works and artifacts. Art handlers are also responsible for installing temporary, traveling and permanent exhibits in museums and galleries.

 

Art Handler Job Duties

• Ensure that art is loaded, transported an unloaded in such a way that it arrives to each location undamaged

• Oversee the careful packing and unpacking of artwork

• Carefully use various hand tools such as hammers, saws, screwdrivers, pliers and wrenches

• Utilize construction materials such as lumber and drywall

• Work with exhibit designers, and gallery or museum managers to install exhibits

• Ensure the artworks or artifacts are displayed and stored safely and properly
