What is a Bylaw Enforcement Officer?

 

General Job Description

Bylaw enforcement officers are responsible for enforcing the bylaws of a municipality. They may also be appointed as special constables to enforce certain regional statutes in their municipality.

 

 

Typical Job Duties

• Prepare cases for court proceedings

• Provide testimony in court related to the violation of by-laws

• Investigate by-law violations

• Respond to complaints by citizens and businesses

• Issue orders to correct problems such as unsightly property

• Issue subpoenas, tickets, traffic tags and other legal documents related to by-law enforcement

• Use specialized equipment to investigate and enforce certain by-laws, such as noise level instruments
