Correctional officers are responsible for the custody, safe care and control of individuals who have been charged with a crime and remanded to custody, are awaiting trial and offenders who have been sentenced to regional or federal detention facilities.

• Act as a positive role model for offenders

• Liaise with other officers in order to ensure proper security at all times in the institution

• Observe inmate behaviour

• Establish positive relationships with inmates in order to prevent disturbances

• Perform disciplinary action and enforce centre rules

• Conduct security searches which includes searching cells and inmates
