Postal inspectors are responsible for investigating cases or allegations involving wrongdoing with regards to sending or receiving mail using the postal service.

 

Postal inspectors may interview potential perpetrators and work with federal investigators to find evidence of wrongdoing.

 

 

Typical Job Duties

• Surveillance of prospective perpetrators

• Gather evidence by interviewing witnesses and suspects and trying to obtain confessions

• May be involved in tasks related to counter-terrorism such as pattern analysis

• May be asked to investigate and spearhead anti-fraud efforts that involve the use of mail services

• Liaise with federal investigators and other agencies
