Security Guard Job Description

Security guards are responsible for the protection of an organization’s personnel, property and information against theft, vandalism and other threats.

Typical Job Duties

• Patrol an assigned area of an organization’s premises

• Check windows, doors and the interiors of buildings for signs of forced entry, damage or theft

• Respond to complaints in a timely fashion

• Use electronic surveillance systems to watch for intruders

• Record security related activities

• May be accompanied by dog or other security guards

• Respond to alarms for schools, homes, businesses and other buildings

• Confer with police officers when crime has occurred
