Comedy Writer Job Description

Comedy writers are responsible for writing original scripts for publication, comedy sketches, stand-up comedy routines or radio, television, film or theatrical productions. Comedy writers may work as freelancers, be employed on a part-time or contractual basis, or may be hired as full time employees within an organization or production company.

 

 

Comedy Writer Job Duties

• Write comedic material for publication, or for performances such as comedy routines and productions

• Work with clients, editors, publishers, or producers to discuss changes or revisions to written material

• Revise material to meet personal standards and to satisfy the needs of clients, publishers, directors, or producers

• May collaborate with other writers

• Follow appropriate procedures in order to obtain copyrights for completed work

• Develop factors such as themes, plots, characters, settings, action, and dialogue

• May submit written work to publications, producers or editors in order to have work published or sold
