Museum Director Job Description

Museum directors are responsible for overseeing the planning and implementation of the activities and displays of a museum.

 

They must form relationships with donors, staff and board members, and ensure the goals and objectives of the museum are met.

 

 

Typical Job Duties

• Oversee the conservation, exhibition, housing and growth of a museum’s various collections

• May assist in the development of the objectives and creative direction of the museum

• Liaise with other museums to make arrangements for traveling exhibitions

• Confer with governing body of museum regarding policies, procedures and budget

• Develop solid relationships with donors and other supporters, in order to ensure a continuation of donations to the museum 

• Recruit, hire, train, supervise and support staff, summer students and volunteers
